A great deal of the MCJ’s 2024 success and improvement can be attributed to the hiring
and retention of new COs, which reduced the number of mandatory overtime
assignments for officers.
Hiring and retention numbers improved or, in some stretches of the year held steady.
Collaborative efforts (joint investigations, task forces, etc.) with other local, state, and
federal law enforcement agencies, as well as partnerships with civic groups, such as
the League of Women Voters, a non-partisan group that assisted MCSO in its voter
registration efforts on behalf of jail occupants, had a positive impact, as well.
A strong, working relationship with Milwaukee County Jail vendors, especially
Wellpath, the facility’s healthcare provider, made occupant care more efficient.
