DRONE UNIT
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office Drone Unit has conducted the reconstruction of
various crime and crash scenes for MCSO investigations and outside agencies. The unit
participates in and aids other agencies with search and rescue and subject apprehension
efforts, along with literal oversight of community events, such as parades, festivals,
community demonstrations, and other specialized gatherings. In 2024, MCSO drones were
deployed 615 times.
Among other notable activities in 2024, the MCSO Drone Unit provided crime scene
measurements at a high-profile homicide scene and assisted several Milwaukee County
municipal police departments in missing persons searches in densely forested areas.
The Drone Unit assisted the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) in conducting a thermal
search for a subject who had pointed a firearm at an MPD officer. Our unit’s drone was able
to provide visual cues to officers on the ground as they sought and successfully
apprehended the suspect without injury to him or other officers.
