MOBILE RESPONSE TEAM
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office Mobile Response Team (MRT) maintains order
during incidents of civil unrest, protects lives and property, and provides stabilization
support during other crises, such as the aftermath of natural disasters. The program
employs specially trained and equipped personnel, all of whom have earned national
accreditation from the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA.
MCSO MRT was established in September of 2018, with a full team vetted in January of
2019. In 2024, MRT membership was 25, and had a sergeant and a lieutenant as team
supervisors.
MCSO
MRT
was
instrumental
in
safeguarding the lives of concertgoers in
Washington Park in July 2024, when a
violent incident led to a mass, unruly
exodus. The presence of MRT stabilized
the scene, helped preserve evidence, and
allowed criminal investigators to make
time-sensitive progress in their pursuit of
a fatal shooting suspect.
In addition to response activations, MRT
often joins the agency’s community
engagement team for family and youthfocused learning and bonding activities.
In 2024, MRT worked collaboratively with
the MCSO’s Public Affairs & Community
Engagement (PACE) Unit to attend and
put on demonstrations at more than half
a dozen National Night Out events in
muncipalities across Milwaukee County.
