AIRPORT DIVISION
The Airport Division participated in two large-scale emergency tabletop exercises with
our MMIA public safety partners.
Airport Division staff were also proud to participate in more than a half-dozen Stars &
Stripes Honor Flights, which escort Wisconsin-based war veterans for a day of tribute
and reflection in Washington, D.C. at various military service memorials in our nation’s
capital.
Airport Division personnel responded to 33 firearms at MMIA TSA checkpoints in 2024, a
notable decrease from the 23 guns discovered in 2022, and the most at any Wisconsin
airport.
With an emphasis on consistency in the handling of firearms, MMIA has seen an increase
in weapons violations. Firearms and other weapons are regularly being discovered at TSA
Security Screening Checkpoints and in checked baggage. These violations, while always
being evaluated on a case-by-case basis, are occurring more frequently than in the past.
Thanks to the stellar work of Airport Division deputies, 20 motor vehicle thefts were
reported in 2024, a 55% decrease from the 44 reported the previous year.
