AIRPORT DIVISION
The Airport Division is responsible for the physical security of Milwaukee Mitchell
International Airport (MMIA), a nearly 2,200-acre campus.
In 2024, MMIA facilitated 6.3 million travelers, representing a 1.3 million increase from
2023.
MCSO’s Airport Division responded, on average (2022-2024), to 1,220 incidents at the
airport, including an average of 31 weapons violations and 25 Operating While
Intoxicated (OWI) violations each year. Those responses included an average of 885
annual sweeps by the airport-based K-9 Unit and 28 dispatches by the airport-based
Bomb Squad.
In the lead-up to and during the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee,
the Airport Division facilitated the safe travel of hundreds of planners and
coordinators commuting regularly to Southeast Wisconsin in order to prepare for the
event, and tens of thousands of travelers during the event.
